Shallipopi's musical journey began at a tender age, starting his love affair with music between 14 and 15 years old. In 2016, he officially embarked on his music career, and it was his debut single, "Elon Musk," that catapulted him into the limelight. Shallipopi possesses a distinctive approach to his art, as he freestyles all his songs without the need for pen and paper.
Shallipopi received his primary and secondary education in his hometown of Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, where he demonstrated a keen interest in science. Taking his academic journey further, he pursued higher education at Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, and successfully graduated in 2021.
Shallipopi's career took flight with the creation of
freestyle content that he shared on TikTok and various social media platforms.
His breakthrough came with the release of the hit single, "Elon
Musk." This track marked a turning point in his career and helped him
secure a prominent position in the Nigerian music scene.
In June 2023, Apple Music recognized Shallipopi's talents and included him in its Up Next artist development program in Nigeria. A few days later, on June 30, he dropped the remix of "Elon Musk," featuring the celebrated artists Fireboy DML and Zlatan, further solidifying his status in the industry.
On July 7, 2023, Shallipopi released "Ex-Convict," a single that made a grand entrance by
debuting at number 6 on the TurnTable Top 100 chart. Just a few days later, on July 11, 2023, he delighted his fans by releasing his EP, "Planet Pluto."
October 17, 2023, marked a significant milestone in Shallipopi's career when he launched his record label Plutomania. He operates as an independent musician, forging his path in the industry while benefiting from a distribution agreement with Dvpper Music Distribution, a Nigerian music record distribution company founded by Damillola Akinwunmi. Under his newly established label, Shallipopi introduced promising music acts, Zerry DL and Tega Boi.
Shallipopi, is a versatile artist known for his prowess in rap, singing, and songwriting. He gained international recognition with his 2023 chart-topping single, "Elon Musk," which claimed the number one spot on the Nigeria Top 100 Apple Music chart. Shallipopi's musical genres encompass Afropop, Afrobeat, Afrofusion, and Amapiano, reflecting his eclectic and dynamic style.
He creates his music by incorporating the Benin language, catering to the local audience in Edo and Benin City. However, his ultimate goal is to make his music resonate with people beyond Edo State, much like how he enjoys music by artists like Seyi Vibez, even though he may not understand the lyrics, and vice versa.
