Alexx Ekubo: From Law Student to Nollywood’s Charming Heartthrob.

Alexx Ekubo-Okwaraeke was born on April 10, 1986, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He hails from Arochukwu in Abia State. Growing up as the second of four children, he was shaped by his mother’s creative flair as a fashion designer and his father’s career in petroleum marketing, which exposed him to different parts of Nigeria. 


Alexx received his early education at K. Kotun Nursery in Lagos and later attended Federal Government College, Daura, in Katsina State. He earned a Law degree from the University of Calabar in 2008 and also holds a Diploma in Mass Communication from Calabar Polytechnic, demonstrating a balance between academia and creativity.

Alexx’s rise began with his first runner-up title in the 2010 Mr. Nigeria contest, opening the door to Nollywood’s world. He officially debuted in film with a minor role in Sinners in the House (2003/2005) and had his breakthrough in Ladies Men a few years later.

Over the years, Alexx has amassed an impressive filmography, over 100 titles including Weekend Getaway, Diary of a Lagos Girl, Hire a Woman, Son of Mercy, Lost in London, and Bling Lagosians, showcasing his strength in romantic and comedic roles.

His talent has earned him several awards:

* Best Supporting Actor – 2013 Best of Nollywood Awards (Weekend Getaway)

* Screen Nation Favorite Male Emerging Talent – 2014

* Multiple other recognitions within Nollywood and beyond including being named among the “Most Influential People of African Descent under 40” by the United Nations (2020)

Despite his success, Alexx hasn’t been without controversy. In 2017, a business partner accused him of fraud over an unpaid loan, a case settled quietly out of court. He also faced public scrutiny when an engagement announcement to actress Fancy Acholonu turned out to be part of a movie promotion in 2024, leaving fans feeling misled.

Another flashpoint came when he posted photos of himself in drag, prompting heated cultural debate about gender expression. A public feud with actor Uti Nwachukwu over fashion critiques added to the headlines in 2020.
