Early Life and Influences
Nasir Mohammed, better known as Nas Magnificent, traces his journey back to his childhood in Kogi State, Nigeria. Raised in a household filled with pop culture artifacts, Nasir's creative spirit was nurtured by his father, who introduced him to the world of dance through pop albums and materials. At the age of nine, Nasir's talent for dancing gained recognition, setting him on a path that would eventually lead to the formation of an indigenous dance culture in Nigeria.
Challenges and Inspiration
Nas faced early setbacks on his quest to establish himself in the dance industry, experiencing rejection at auditions for street dance competitions. Undeterred, Nas continued to hone his skills and took a more serious approach to dancing when he enrolled at the University of Ilorin. Immersing himself in dance content from around the world, Nas stumbled upon Krump, a highly energetic and expressive dance style that would become a transformative force in his life.

Intrigued by Krump's dynamic and non-violent expression of emotions, Nas delved into the culture, embracing it not just as a dance style but as a way of life and brotherhood. Moving back to Lagos in the early 2010s, Nas faced the challenge of earning acceptance in the local dance community. Battling with other dancers to prove himself, Nas emerged as a leader and, along with his peers, pioneered Afrobuck, a dance culture that uniquely blended Krump with local dance styles.
Afrobuck: A Cultural Stamp
Nas and his collaborators, driven by the desire to showcase Nigeria's Krump community on the global stage, faced criticism for deviating from traditional Krump. Undeterred, they persisted, blending Krump routines with local music, giving rise to Afrobuck. The term Afrobuck, proposed by Krumper KidEyez Kwame, not only distinguished their style but also attracted international recognition, breaking stereotypes about dancers trying to emulate Western culture.
Rising Popularity and International Recognition
Despite initial resistance within the Nigerian dance community, Afrobuck gained popularity, earning Nas the opportunity to judge in international Krump competitions. Nas envisions Afrobuck transcending the boundaries of Krump and becoming a worldwide movement with its own unique identity, inspired by Krump but capable of influencing the global dance landscape.
